Electroless Nickel Plating is the deposition of a nickel-phosphorous alloy onto a metal substrate without the use of an electrical current. The electroless nickel plating process utilizes an autocatalytic chemical reaction to deposit a reliable, repeatable coating of uniform thickness. This uniformity of deposit eliminates the need for post-plate grinding. Electroless nickel demonstrates excellent corrosion protection, solderability, and lubricity. Electroless nickel effectively coats parts with sharp edges, deep recesses, seams, threads, and complex geometries.

Applications:

Automotive components - Aerospace Components - Electrical Equipment - Molds and Dies - Food service equipment - Gas and oil components - Printing industry equipment - Salvage - Packaging and handling machinery

Electroless Nickel finishing options available:

High Phosphorous
Atotech’s Nichem HP 1151 bath is an electroless nickel process that features a phosphorus content of 10-12%. It has a semi -bright reflective deposit that passes the 180-degree ductility bend test. The as plated hardness is 520-620 HV at 0.1 and 930-1080 HV at 0.1 after heat treatment. The 1151 bath is both lead and cadmium free, complying with the international ELV (End of Life Vehicle) as well as the RoHs/WEEE directive.
Mid Phosphorous
Atotech’s Nichem MP 1188 is a heavy metal free stabilized electroless nickel process that provides a bright deposit with a phosphorous content of 6-8% and close to neutral stress. The hardness of this deposit is 550-650 HV as plated at 0.1 and 850-1050 HV after heat treatment. It features exceptional Taber Wear Properties, 27-30 mg/1000 cycles as plated and 13-16 mg/1000 cycles after heat treatment. The 1188 bath is both lead and cadmium free, complying with the international ELV (End of Life Vehicle) as well as the RoHs/WEEE directive.

Electrolytic Nickel-Phos:

Atotech’s Novoplate HS is an electrolytic process that deposits up to 12-17% of phosphorous content. It is an ammonia free process that contains no toxic additives. This process features an as plated hardness of 500-600 HV and features excellent corrosion and wear properties. It addition the deposit is solderable and has good thick wire bondability.

Chrome:

Atotech’s BluCr is a functional trivalent chrome deposit. BluCr does not use toxic hexavalent chromium and eliminates the need for PFAS containing mist suppressants that are now being heavily regulated by States EPAs. The hardness of the deposit is 875-950 HV.1 as plated hardness with the potential of 1200-1300 HV.1 after a 1hr bake. The BluCr system allows for multiple thousands of hours of NSS performance and unmatched protection against chloride rich environments.
